| Cocktail History of Tapas and Paella Tapas Tapas, as we know it today, gives the diner an excellent chance to sample a wide range of delicacies and enjoy its flavours without being overwhelmed by its sheer quantity. The origin of tapas is said to have begun more than a century ago in Andalucia, Spain. Bar tenders were said to have placed a slice of bread on top of customer’s glasses in order to keep flies and insects out of their drink. Later, the creativity of certain bar tenders saw slices of cheese and ham added on the bread which created very enticing snacks. So since then, tapas (being the plural of tapa, meaning cover/lid in Spanish) was conceived. PaellaPaella is a rice dish originally from Valencia, Spain. These dishes are made from short grain Arborio rice which is native in that region. The peasants would use a paella pan to cook rice with easily available ingredients such as tomatoes. They would add meat on special occasions. Over time, this dish became so famous that it took on the word Paella which actually means “frying pan” in Valencian but this word has since become synonymous with this hearty dish. Paella is one of Spain’s most famous dishes and this happens to be CAVA’s specialty as well. |
